Phoenix — The Phoenix City Council yesterday approved changes to numerous City of Phoenix funded Valley Metro routes. The proposed changes affect both local bus and RAPID™ commuter service in the city boundaries. The changes will save more than $4.3 million in operating costs for the department. A summary of the changes is listed below:

Bus routes will be modified on a number of end-of-line segments: Routes 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 13, 17, 17A, 19, 27, 29, 35, 41, 43, 50, 51, 52, 59, 60, 67, 70, 90 and 154.

Route 8-7th Ave will be extended to Euclid Ave.; Route 67 – 67th Ave. will be extended south of Lower Buckeye Rd.

Routes 16 and 80 will be modified to no longer enter Sunnyslope Transit Center. Route 16 – 16th Street will stay on 16th Street and continue up the SR-51 freeway; and Route 80 – Northern will be extended to 16th Street.

The I-17 RAPID-to-Rail service will be eliminated due to low ridership.

Friday schedules on all RAPID™ routes will change to reflect reduced passenger demand on those days.

A 180-day trial of RAPID™ service in the South Mountain area will be introduced, traveling from the newly-opened 27th Ave. & Baseline park-and-ride into downtown Phoenix.

Information on service changes is available at www.valleymetro.org. Passengers can also get more information by calling Valley Metro Customer Service at 602-253-5000.
