At the present time, within days of Arizona's 100th birthday, the LGBT community still fights for the opportunity to commit to their love through legalized marriage. So, what does the future hold? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in her speech in honor of International Human Rights Day, said, "progress comes from being willing to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. We need to ask ourselves, "How would it feel if it were a crime to love the person I love?"
Each month, HERO hosts a Town Hall Education Panel, in which the community comes together to discuss a variety of subjects that impact the LGBT community on a local and national level. On February 1, HERO is excited to present "Where We Were, Where We Are, and Where We're Going"- a forum discussing how the LGBT community has been affected, both positively and negatively, since Arizona has been a state. The Past, Present, and Future of the LGBT community are addressed through video, dialogue, and guest speakers. Town Hall will be held Wednesday, February 1st from 6:30-7:30pm at One Voice at 4442 N. 7th Ave. Phoenix, 85013.
