TUCSON - Works by Mozart and Haydn will be presented by Tucson’s premiere string quartet on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 2pm, at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church, 665 West Roller Coast Road. The Kingfisher Quartet will perform in a concert to benefit the Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN).
The “Music for Royals” program includes Josef Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major. The famous second movement of the piece quotes the melody Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser (“God Save Emperor Francis”)– better known today as the German national anthem. The second piece on the program is Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s String Quartet No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 44, No. 2. This piece, along with others in Op. 44, were dedicated to the Crown Prince of Sweden.
The highly regarded Kingfisher Quartet is an independent ensemble of local professional musicians regularly perform with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Chamber Artists and other local organizations. The group consists of Benjamin Nisbet and Ellen Chamberlain, violin; Emma Noel Votapek, viola; and Anne Gratz, cello.
The Dove of Peace charity concert series is in its eighth season. The beneficiaries of past concerts include Habitat for Humanity, Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse, the Tucson Indian Center, Interfaith Community Services, the St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic, and BorderLinks. Pastor Stephen Springer of Dove of Peace said, “Our congregation is pleased whenever we can bring together a good cause with good music. These concerts allow nonsectarian organizations like TIHAN to speak to the public about their important work and the critical issues facing our community. And they allow concertgoers to support a good cause while enjoying beloved classical music, performed by leading professional musicians.”
