Sedona, Arizona, August 10, 2010- Sedona Celebrates the Red Rock Road on August 20-21, 2010. Sedona got a facelift thanks to ADOT and the efforts of so many people in the community – and after years of construction, they are ready to celebrate!
The purpose of this event is two-fold. First, they will celebrate and recognize the efforts of all those who contributed to this project over the years. Second, the event will serve as an opportunity for visitors from near and far to experience the road and take note that Sedona is open for business.
This two day event will feature organized activities and festivities, live music, food, entertainment, and acknowledgements. Businesses and organizations from the entire area have been invited to participate by creating festivities and activities on August 20-21 and have been asked to embrace the color scheme of red, white and blue.
The merriment will begin on Friday, with a “Drive & Ride the Road” with community dignitaries. The procession will depart the Sedona Airport at 5:00pm, where locals are invited to bring out their antique cars, convertibles, and motorcycles – or just plain cars to drive and ride the road. At 8:00pm, the Sedona International Film Festival will feature an outdoor movie shown on the Jumbo Tron at the Tequa Plaza. Wrap up the night with food and entertainment at one of the many great restaurants offering celebration specials including the Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa’s Reverse Happy Hour.
The festivities continue on Saturday morning with an intimate Native American blessing and an official ribbon cutting to start the day.
The Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition will also host a Celebrate the Red Rock Road bike ride from the Village of Oak Creek to Sedona. The riders will depart at 8:00am from the rear parking lot behind the Outlet Mall and will join the celebration at the Airport Overlook by 10:00am.
The public is invited to a special celebration at the Sedona Airport Scenic Overlook at 10:00am to acknowledge those involved in this road completion project. The Sedona Heritage Museum will be on hand to give an historic look at SR 179 with before and after photos of road.
The day will then continue with shopping, music, street food, Native American dancers, entertainment and more at Hillside Shopping Center, Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, Uptown Sedona and West Sedona.
