Will the survey of troops regarding Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) have an impact on the decision to repeal it or not?
A survey has been sent out to troops to get a sense of what the response to the repeal or DADT will be. Do you think the Service Members should be involved in this process? Is their response likely to have an impact on the decision for repeal?
What happens if someone “outs” themselves during this survey process, intentionally or otherwise?

They will do what they want, no matter what the survey says. Who knows who is getting the survey, if they truly are confidential, or what the questions are. I’ve heard some of them, but 100? Really?
DADT has to go. Unless every person in the military is going to be “stripped” down to the same benefits and restrictions as the LGBT members, it has to go the other way, which is to bring every UP to the same benefits and freedoms.
Every person who serves this country bleeds the same way, and made the same choice when they took the oath.
We have to believe that this is a step toward repeal. Most changes start with discussion, and the military has used surveys like this before. They did not just decide to do it for this situation.
If the numbers/estimates are correct on how many LGBT service members there are, then the survey will hopefully include representation from them. Also no telling if the results will ever be released, or just used behind closed doors.
My feelings are that they will not use it because we have older generals, commanders etc., who are conservative Christian types and don’t believe at all in what is good for the army or the nation.
Everything I am seeing and hearing about this survey is bad!! This survey as written brings negativity and only fosters even more homophobia within the military. It doesn’t focus on the positives that will come with this repeal. The questions are not well rounded and will not provide an accurate and honest opinion of the military soldier. If they are going to poll the military, why is it only going to a select handfull 400,000. Is not a lot when you look at the military as a whole. I am very disappointed about this survey and fear that the results will be leading very much to the conservative right.
